Lévis, on June, 16 2022. From 7 to July, 10 2022, Formation Nautique Québec will be holding the 7th edition of the Coupe Femina, a 100% women's sailboat competition.
After a two-year break, the Coupe Femina is gearing up to welcome more than 150 female sailors from 60 towns and cities across Quebec, and even from Brest, as the organization will be welcoming regatta sailor and blogger Katell Quidelleur, who will be travelling to experience this 100% women's nautical challenge.
For Marie-Andrée Poulin, TV presenter, sailing enthusiast and spokeswoman for the 3rd edition of the event, "I realized how important it is to promote and encourage women to take their place in a world too often recognized as 'masculine'. This challenge, this women's gathering, is intended to inspire women of all ages and generations".
A distinctive event, the Coupe Femina appeals for its audacity and creates a buzz among participants and partners alike, by putting values such as determination, team spirit, perseverance and courage to the test. As more and more women want to take up the challenge, the organization, in partnership with the Transat Québec Saint-Malo, has taken the bold step of enhancing its program with a new competition: the "Femina Challenge".
This challenge, leading up to the Trophée Transat Québec Saint-Malo, is aimed at female racers wishing to increase the degree of difficulty of their participation. In addition to taking part in the Coupe Femina on Saturday July, 9 2022, participating teams are subjected to two sailing events between Quebec City and Lévis on Friday, July 8.
For Michelle Cantin, President of Coupe Femina and Formation Nautique Québec, "I'm passionate about using sailing as a means of encouraging women and girls to surpass themselves, take their place, be daring and think outside the box. In the end, they come away transformed by having succeeded."
The Coupe Femina is also a self-improvement and leadership program for girls aged 15 to 17. This year, 5 young people have been chosen to take part, with a single objective: to succeed in the race.
Proud ambassadors of their event, the sailors and the organization have propelled their competition to new horizons, as in 2020, on the recommendation of Voile Canada, the Coupe Femina receives the prestigious Rolex Award in the "Recreational Event of the Year in Canada" category.
